Abstract: This dataset contains a suite of thirteen 3D-printable mineral models in .stl format (olivine x2, pyroxenes x2, amphibole, plagioclase, orthoclase, quartz, biotite, apatite, sphene, zircon, magnetite) as well as a catalogue of >150 random sections passing through each models in .pdf format. The purpose of this dataset is to provide students and more experienced petrologists with a clear notion of the variability in habit that occurs in thin sections simply from random sectioning effects, and for select crystal 'morphotypes'.
